'V/H/S' (Review)

'V/H/S' is a horror film about a group of burglars who decide to sneak into the house of a sleeping old man to steal a rare old VHS tape, only to find out he wasn’t just sleeping, but he was dead (or so they thought). Alas, they go looking for the videotape anyway only to find that the house was full of VHS tapes, so they have to watch each one to see which is which.
I thought the movie was pretty genius, only because it’s sort of different than your average found footage film and each videotape (story) is very disturbing in their own ways.

I thought the movie was overall amazing, but the only complaint I have is the shakiness of the camera from time to time, but that doesn’t define the film one bit. I thought the entire thing was scary as hell, and there were definitely a few scenes in it that made me jump. I would have to say the first story is the creepiest though (see photo above), if only I could tell exactly what the fuck that thing is, maybe you can though. This is definitely a horror movie I recommend.

Top 10 Favorite Horror TV Shows

We all love seeing horror on TV, but do you have any favorite horror shows? Check out this Top 10 list to see if any of them are listed. They are listed from least favorite to most favorite, 10 being the least and 1 being the most.

10) Haven

I was pretty impressed with "Haven" when it first came on the air. It was eerie, creepy, and some parts were a little scary, but that happened only until after the first couple of seasons, then it began to go all down hill from there. In my opinion, I think the first season is the best, but each season I found the show getting to be more and more dull, and some parts were even a little boring. However, I do appreciate the style of the show and I just think the concept of it is brilliant, I just couldn't get into the rest of the series although it is still in my list of favorite horror shows on television.

9) Tales From the Darkside

Tales From the Darkside has been one of my favorite horror/suspense shows since I was in the eighth grade. I found it one day on the Chiller channel when I stayed home from school sick, and as soon as I watched it I thought it was one of the creepiest shows I've ever seen, so I watched it everyday at about 5:30 P.M. Alas, I will admit that some of the episodes were hit and miss. One day they'll give you this really creepy-weird episode, and another day they'll give you an episode that's just boring to the core. In my opinion, there were more good episodes than bad though.

8) Masters of Horror

Masters of Horror  is one of those horror shows that pretty much tell a story in each episode. Each one is like an hour long horror film, directed by classic horror movie directors, one of them being John Carpenter. Honestly, I haven't seen every episode, but all the episodes I have seen I thought some were disturbing and others were just mildly creepy, but I thought it was a brilliant show and I hate that it's not on anymore. I do have some of the DVD's, and the ones I recommend are "Cigarette Burns", "Incident On and Off A Mountain Road", "The Fair-Haired Child", and "Dreams In A Witch House".

7) The Twilight Zone

Let me just start off by saying that The Twilight Zone is a classic, and it absolutely deserves to be in my Top 10 List of Horror Shows, although it is also in the category of Scifi. Speaking of which, the Syfy channel shows a marathon of nothing but classic Twilight Zone episodes all day and night for two days straight, which is how I got into it. As I've said about a few other shows, and the reason I'm putting it on number 7 is because there are a LOT of amazing creepy and smart episodes, while other times there were some hit 'n' miss episodes, but it will always be my favorite classic horror show from the '60s.

6) Freddy's Nightmares

Freddy's Nightmare's is another horror TV series that I started watching on one of the days I was home sick from school. If it was on a Friday, I'd watch marathons of it all day long up until it ended. I was a HUGE Nightmare On Elm Street fan back then, and I still am, but at the time I had no idea there was a series so I was pretty confused I found it while flipping through the channels, but I love it because it reminds me of classic Nightmare On Elm Street  which I thought was cool because the stories were different and each episode was only an hour long, hosted by Freddy Krueger (Robert England). If you've never seen it before, you should definitely check it out, because I love it and if you love Freddy you should love it too.

5) Tales From the Crypt

Tales From the Crypt is one of the shows that I've been watching since I was in the second grade. The show scared me, but I fucking loved it so much I watched it anyway, despite the weird dreams it gave me at night. This is listed at number 5 because it's one of my all-time favorite horror TV shows, and the Crypt Keeper is fucking hilarious when introduces the story and at the end of each episode. There are a lot of boring episodes in the series too, but there are more disturbing ones, and once in a while you'll get a psychological episode, which are usually my favorites. My favorite episode of the entire series is in the first season, "And All Around the House" about an escaped mental patient who dresses in a Santa Klaus suit, and stalks a woman and her young daughter all night. Best episode ever, if you ask me.

4) Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Buffy the Vampire Slayer I placed at number 4 because it's one of my all-time favorite shows in the entire world. I started watching it when I was in the eighth grade and I just couldn't peal myself away from the TV lol! The show picks up where the movie left off, but I'm just going to go ahead and tell you that that movie is, without a doubt, the worst movie ever made and if you've never seen Buffy the Vampire Slayer, just steer clear from the movie, and just watch the show, because for one thing, it's got so much creepier monsters and better actors. Sarah Michelle Gellar does an awesome job in her role as Buffy.

3) American Horror Story

American Horror Story is at number 3 because it's by far one of the most gruesome, macabre horror TV series' that I've ever seen. When I watched it when it first came on, I was blown away about how scary and breathtaking it was, and I didn't know as I watched how connected to the characters I would soon become. I like the show because each season takes place in a different time setting, and it has a whole different story to it. The first season, however, was the best. It took place in a haunted house with ghosts and demons that could actually harm you. Season two was also gruesome, but not as good as the first season. It takes place in an insane asylum in the 1960s. The third season, the one that's premiers October 9th 2013, is based around witchcraft, hence the name "Coven".

2) True Blood

True Blood is one of those shows where once you watch it, you're going to want to watch each episode over and over again. The show starts off with Sookie Stackhouse (played by Anna Paquin) a waitress with telepathic powers and an attraction for a local vampire patron that comes into the bar she works in. When she starts dating this vampire, her life takes an immediate turn for craziness. All six seasons, in my opinion, were completely amazing. I'm sad to see it end next year.

1) The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead was chosen to be put at number 1, and why? Well should there really be a reason? This show is by far the most creative and different zombie story I've ever seen in my entire life. I usually don't say that about any show, I'm very picky when it comes to entertainment, but this show is absolute perfection and will get you sucked in as soon as you start watching the first episode. Based on the comic book series by Robert Kirkman, The Walking Dead is now going into it's 4th season, and a lot has happened since Rick woke up from his comatose state. This show is just absolutely brilliant in every way!
